I love creating fabulous florals for our couples and over the past few years have met and worked with so many wonderful people. I’ve worked on all sorts of Weddings, big and small. However as this little business grows and we take on more an more Weddings and Events (we are about to go over 60 bookings for this year, with more enquires coming in weekly). I have had to make some tough decisions. One of them is looking at the work I really enjoy doing and what causes me lots of stress.
I love working on events with lots of flowers… Flowers at the Ceremony, Flowers all over the tables at the Reception, maybe even a large installation here and there. This is the sort of wedding I really get excited about working on. When I have an abundance of beautiful flowers to select from whilst I create, when I know that there will be enough flowers to create a mood and set the scene for a magical day, this is what makes me happy.
In contrast the limitations that are put on me when purchasing for our Elopement Packages means I can not order as many varieties of flowers that I would like, or I will easily spend more than I charge. This restriction always causes me heaps of stress. Also due to where I live and work, I have to travel over 4 hours per Wedding, to go to Cairns and collect the flowers a few days prior and then back to Port Douglas to deliver them on the Wedding Day. All this time is adding up.
So the choice has been made pretty clear… Pause all Elopement Packages and increase my minimum order value, so that I am focussing on those Weddings that I love doing. Our new current minimum order is $3000 spend on florals.
I totally understand that this will disappoint some clients and that’s not a great feeling, but I have to do what works for me and my little business.
