Wedding Flowers - What do they actually Cost? Updated Sept 2023

What are my wedding flowers actually going to cost? I’ve been in this Industry for so long now that sometimes I forget that to most people flowers just magically appear from the Florist’s back garden. Well as much as I would love this to be true, it is very much off the mark.

Flowers are an International business, the roses that you purchase in your local florist have probably been grown by a farmer in South America or Southern Africa, those Peonies that appear in the middle of June have most likely been sent on a first class flight from Japan, the massive Phaleanopsos Orchid hanging out of that ceiling installation was grown and dyed pretty colours in South East Asia. Even local Australian product will need to be flown and then sent via road to us here in the Tropical North Queensland.

And the well traveled flowers are only part of the equation. Your wedding flowers involve so much more than the pretty scented blooms that you will look so fondly at in photos during your “happily ever after”.

A professional Floral Designer will spend days in the quoting, planning, sketching, reassuring, talking to flower growers and wholesalers, ordering product and sundries, reassuring, stressing about it getting on the right flight from who knows where, talking to other vendors, reassuring, scheduling and staffing. Phew…... That’s all before the beautiful blooms even arrive in the Studio.

Once the flowers have arrived they will be unpacked and properly hydrated and treated, because they have flown a long way to get to Tropical North Qld. So now the fun begins and the designs are created with the utmost of care and attention to detail to ensure every bloom is in the perfect place and at its most beautiful just for this special day. An average wedding design phase will take and around 1-2 days.

Now the big day is here and the Floral Designer will deliver the blooms to several different locations and set up the ceremony and reception flowers on site, usually reappearing after the ceremony to relocated the flowers to the Reception so they can be enjoyed a little longer. In most cases they will return in the middle of the night (or the following morning) to remove all of the designs from the venue and take them back to the studio, clean vases, dispose of any waste and pack everything back away to do it all over again next week.

So you can see it is so much more than just a “bunch of flowers” and the time invested to create the floral dreams of our customers is actually quiet significant…..

But this still isn’t helping you in figuring out what in the big old DOLLARS are your Wedding Flowers going to cost. Well below I’ve done up a bit of a guide of what you can expect to get for different price ranges. Needless to say this is just a guide and its designed to help you plan your budget. I hope you find it helpful.
